My Husband and I were tiredly cooking dinner together, while our toddler was in his room playing with his toys. We could hear him and checked on him often, so we were not worried about what he was doing. It had been a long day for all of us and we were dreaming of sleep more then anything. Finally the last of the ingredients were being cut for the casserole when all of a sudden I froze. “Jarod, do you hear that?”
He looks a little confused and shakes his head no. “The child has gone silent.” I whisper in horror.
A matching expression of “Uh oh!” appears on his face.
I give him the knife to finish cutting the food and say I will go check on the boy. I mean how much trouble could he get into, he had only been silent for maybe a minute and we had just checked on him not very long ago, he had been happily engrossed in his toys.
I quietly sneak to the hallway, only to be met by said boy coming my direction, he sees me and raises his arms to be picked up, the whole time excitedly telling me about something I can’t understand. I pick him up, all smiles, listening to his happy chatter, just to realize he is soaked…. not the I peed through my diaper soaked, but the my shirt is soaked and I didn’t have a cup with me kind. I set him on the couch to take his shirt of, suddenly feeling that build up of dread again. I leave the munchkin with Jarod explaining that I had to go investigate.
So off to the hallway once more, the closer I get to the truth the scarier it is, Finally, with lead feet I stop outside the door to the only place that water could have come from…..
As I stared at the bathroom toilet, I realized my fears had come true…
My darling toddler had found the toilet water….
In that one quiet minute of silence and peace, he had taken the full role of toilet paper and emptied it into the toilet, he had then soaked the rest of the role and placed it neatly on my bathroom counter, all the while soaking the floor with so. much. water. Did I mention, he had only been silent for about a minute?
The moral of this story? never trust a quiet two year old!
He then very sweetly, very generously helped Jarod and I clean up the mess….
